Meanwhile learning everything in detail about the cell phones we are using, sometimes we get puzzled when it comes to a computer assembling and it is even more difficult for the beginners to assemble everything properly.
So, here we are providing some useful fingertips, that you can use as a beginner’s guide while assembling a computer. Your PC building success will bring a smile to your face. So, let us find out the steps to follow while assembling a computer.
Steps to consider while assembling a computer :
1. Determining the purpose of assembling :
Before assembling the computer, first, you need to know your purpose. If you are a pro player and love to make it into a gaming machine, then the combination of the parts will be different. Or if you are looking it for solving your creative purposes like photography, freelancing, or graphics designing, then the parts of the systems will be different. If you are thinking of a computer that will serve all the purposes for you, then you have to assemble accordingly.
So, it is a beginner’s first guide to realize the purpose.
2. Central Processing Unit: AMD or INTEL :
The world’s most valued processors are Intel and AMD. Most of the users around the world prefer either AMD or Intel. Experts say, for better gaming performance you are required to have an Intel processor. And if you are working and playing, then you can go for the AMD processor. Usually, Intel CPUs are favorite for its users as it gives the best performance.
Also, Intel offers the best frequency speeds and single-core performance. Usually, people consider AMD processors as they are cheaper as compared to Intel processors.
3. Open the components carefully :
The parts of a computer are so fragile, that is why you need to handle them with care. Imagine, breaking the components before installing them! While opening the solid packaging of the CPU, can lead to bent pins as well. Sometimes, you may discover damaged components inside the packaging, keep eyes on that.
If the components are already damaged, then you will not be able to adjust them. It will create problems in functioning.
4. CPU cooler with the thermal paste :
Meanwhile, all the CPU coolers require the thermal paste. But some CPUs already have it as pre-applied. The presence of thermal paste helps the users in the installation process of the cooling solution. It allows an efficient transfer of heat from the IHS of the processor to the base plate.
If you want to know, whether you have the pre-applied paste in your CPU, then you have to check the bottom of the base plate or you can check the water block of the CPU cooler which is being attached to the CPU.
Now, if you want to apply thermal paste, you need to follow some instructions.
- At first, you have to place a little amount of the thermal paste into the base of the color.
- After that, you have to use a plastic finger protector or a plastic bag to protect the finger.
- Then, you have to spread the paste evenly across the surface.
- Try to cover the entire surface, which will be in contact with the processor, and make sure that, you need to apply a thin paste, which is not too thick.
It has lived for around 2 years or sometimes even more. You have to keep it in a cool place, where the sunlight can not sprinkle its ray on it. It is important as it helps in filling the microscopic imperfections.
5. Installing the Graphics card :
All systems do not require a dedicated graphics card. The stand-alone graphics card will give a different performance and the installation process will be different and difficult. So, you have chosen the card according to the case size, power supply, and capabilities. Also, the modern graphics cards use PCI – express slot. This thin connector is located in the area near the rear of the motherboard.
Place the card after looking at the slot, if anything needs to be removed then do it as soon as possible.
6. Install the storage devices :
We all know that there are three different storage drive sizes, which you are likely to detect and which will be mounted differently.
Hard Disk Drives are usually larger than 3.5 inch in sizes and the Solid – State Drives (SSD) holds the sizes around 2.5 inches. While using the storage devices read proper instructions and watch ample videos to clear your doubts. Modern cases offer the ‘tool-less’ installation system.
Different brands have different specs and different installation processes. Usually, the hard drives require two connections as well, one for the power system and one for the data system. They both come in the L – shape pattern, and it is not hard to find and put them in the wrong slot.
7. Check the compatibility of the components with each other :
While assembling a computer, you need to know the compatibility of the components that you are going to use. Many components come in different flavors and tastes, as they are from different vendors. All of them may not play well together. A simple example, if you buy a motherboard that does not have the right type of socket to go well with the CPU (Central Processing Unit), then you will not enjoy the performance of your computer.
You have to make sure that, you are assembling a computer with compatible components that work harmoniously together. If you assemble a mismatched group of parts, they will not play well. Also, before assembling a computer learn about the parts and its performances as well.
First, analyze the parts according to the budget to premium range. Because of having a limited budget you can not expect a high-grade CPU or graphics card. But if you want to have a motherboard or key additions like SSD, then you are going to be SOL.
8. Check the static environment :
The static electricity may create problems while assembling the computer. So always try to have an extension board and a battery too sometimes. Static electricity sometimes, destroy the expensive components at one go. There are anti-static wrist straps are there, that you can use for safety purposes to avoid the dangers from high – static environments.
Before touching the computer, you can touch a metal object with an anti-static wrist strap to check if you are getting any sock or not.
9. Keep some band-aids with you :
Now, you must be thinking, why you need band-aids! But the band-aids will help you to protect your fingers and hands from any sort of cut. Because, some cheaper cases may have sharp edges, which you may get cut by yourself.
Some people consider this incident as a badge of honor while installing the parts of the computer, as you are going to assemble it for the very first time. So, now you must have realized the need for the first aid box.
10. Get the tool kit near you :
To assemble the computer, you will need a tool kit to arrange the components in the right place. A medium-sized screwdriver is a must need to fit the components. You may also need other tools as well, therefore it is always recommended to have the whole tool kit with three-pronged parts retriever, you never know when you will be needing other tools at the same time.
Sometimes, the pliers also help you to open tight screws or bolts.
11. Decide the Workplace :
Deciding the workplace is one of the most important tasks you need to do. An appropriate workspace with good lighting or a flashlight to get the visibility in the dark, even narrow corners of your build. Few important things you need to have :
- A large table, where you feel comfortable with enough space while building the computer.
- Enough light to get the details of each part and component.
- Arrange a comfortable chair to seat with.
12. Sometimes, the long fingernails can help you :
The above line makes you feel fussy, but when it comes to dexterity your long fingernails can be your asset. The pseudo fingernails will help you to open any kind of pins and tight spaces. Also, long fingernails will help you to hold the tiny screws.
13. Read the instructions for each part :
Each part of the computer comes with different instructions. Read those parts properly. Every part has unique features and setups. So, it is always recommended to read the instructions in detail before starting building the computer. Sometimes, your guesswork may damage the work you are doing, so go with proper instructions. Manual work always helps you to go further.
14. Proper and correct installation :
If you have done the installation process correctly, for instance, while installing the RAM, you will feel relax or satisfied. After installing it correctly, your confidence will get boosted. When the components are installed properly, you will find no problem, while functioning.
System memory RAM does not require any special wires. You just need to keep it in mind that, find the compatible RAM and choose its direction and slot choice.
15. Haphazard Handling :
The haphazard handling of the components may break the parts. For instance, you have put a different component in a different part, it will be collapsed. So, before installing it in a wrong way make sure to avoid haphazard handling. If you are sure about some parts, then only try to fit it in. Find the proper spot, before the fitting or sometimes you have to rotate the components as well.
16. Keep the cables neat and clean :
You will be having bunches of cables in the place, where you are building the Personal Computer. The cables may distract you while looking at the motherboard. So, keep the cables in an orderly manner. Zip ties are good options to have organized cables.
17. Have patience for the I/O backplate :
All people show frustrations while installing the I/O backplate. You have to flush it against the case. Use at least two fingers to cover the length of the backplate and ensure proper alignment outside the box or else it will miss the noise. You have to give complete fingers to the back plate’s perimeter. Then only it will get installed and start working properly.
18. Flipping the switch on your power supply :
Definitely, you will keep it in mind that the PC needs a power supply, and it will be easier for you to flip the switch after it is getting installed.
19. Check Peripheral works beforehand :
As you are going to spend so many hours on building a computer, just to switch on the power button and see whether it works properly or not, so make sure you are going to connect with a functioning monitor. If the mouse and the keyboard do not work properly, it is not an issue as you can change it quickly by buying another.
20. Keep an Operating System Install disk :
After building the computer, you will be required to install Windows or Linux. That is why prepare a USB boot in advance. So, after double-checking everything, now you are ready to power on the button. Also, keep some expert friends near you, in case if your computer is diagnosed with any connectivity issues, then ask them.
So, being a beginner you have learned the steps, how to assemble the computer, and run it properly along with instructions for the installation process as well. Enjoy assembling the computer, and learn new things while uploading.
